context

Civic Design focuses on civic projects, like projects related to citizenship understood as a political collectivity; it is applied to achieve collective solutions designed for the good of a community.

The results can be Services, Spaces, Relationships, Systems, Tools, Devices, Methods, Processes, Strategies, Policies, Audiovisual Content and Mobile Applications.

Its scope of work constantly takes into account the hybrid dimension of the territory: its material component and its digital sphere, as well as its glocal dimension: its relationship with the closest environment without forgetting its connection/dependence with the global sphere. The definition of a final product is only one of the possible paths.

Civic Design proposes to reach the expected solutions through processes or methods, enabling relationships and strategies based on the collaboration of many people located in their specific territories. So we are talking about an idea of Design with the ambition of generating Civic Innovation.

The introduction of this concept repositions us all as citizens, related to a territory and its governance. After years of mechanisms that have separated us from our physical and local dimension, it is urgent to recover our position as protagonists. The starting point cannot be other than the territory to which each of us is a part; without forgetting, of course, our connection and relationship with the world, that is, our own Local Dimension.

The idea of applying recipes and seeking participation is over. Here we go directly to generate a process/agent that lives and develops in a territory, dialoguing and involving the other agents and protagonists…

We’re talking about an exciting new professional vision that doesn’t really fit the classic dimensions and ecosystems.

Since 2015 we had 3 successful editions with more than 500 participants and 63 projects developed.

OUR CORE IS OUR COMMUNITY

So far, more than 500 people were enroled on this course networked in dozens of cities all around the world. They are architects, designers, urban planners, sociologists, educators, policymakers, civil servants, economists, graphic designers with a specific concern on innovating our territories with citizen engagement.

GET INTO COLLABORATIVE AND COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE PROCESSES

Connected through the global network, this course develops innovative skills and tools to build better collaboration between citizens, academia, public and private decision makers within the building process of territories.

OUR POWER IS OUR REPUTATION

Who has already taken the course has no doubt to endorse and suggest it for other people. The clue is a true collaborative work where everyone feels free to participate and enjoy a colearning ambient.
